A Tradition Worth Reviving: Moving Houses in Ocean City

A recent article in OCNJ Daily titled Ocean City to demolish old homes for parking highlighted two 100+ year-old homes slated for demolition (now sadly gone).

It got us thinking. Did you know that houses in Ocean City used to get relocated all the time, and we’re not talking a few feet? We mean blocks. A house on 3rd Street might end up on 23rd. That was just how things were done.

Holiday Historic Home Tour 2025 Recap

Thank you to all for making the 2025 Holiday Historic Home Tour another sold-out success!

This annual one-night celebration of Ocean City’s historic homes and neighborhoods was the best yet, between beautiful homes decked out for the holidays, live music, cookies and hot chocolates, and good neighbors. Thank you to everyone who came out for the festivities and a very special thank you those hosts and volunteers who made this night happen.

HOME HOSTS: Tom & Misty, Linda & Larry, Jennifer & Tom, Ginny, Elaine, Nancy, Nancy 2, Nancy 3 & Bill, Lainey & Tony, Bill & Karen, Tina, Brad & Bridget, Peter, Lauren & Betsy, Cindi, Lexi & Alyse, and Laurie.

BUSINESS HOSTS: Scarborough Inn, The Flanders Hotel, Coastal Chateau, Shoppes at the Asbury, and Handlaget.

We consistently sell out of this amazing event. If you missed this year’s tour, consider becoming a member of Friends of OCNJ History & Culture. Only members get early access to two free tickets (must have an active membership through Dec 6).

The Enigmatic Lane

A Plaza Place Documentary

Friends of OCNJ’s own Bill Merritt and local student Carmine Cantrell present The Enigmatic Lane, a documentary exploring the charm and history of Plaza Place, a hidden gem of Ocean City. Featuring appearances by Keith Hartzell, Maryanne Pionegro-Smith, and Sne Avichal, the film celebrates the unique character of this historic street. Completed just before the news of Wonderland's closing, the documentary offers a timeless look at a neighborhood rich in stories.
